In the 18 years that I have worked in Lansing<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>, I have seen a lot of different things.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>I have seen people out side of the Capital daily protesting the fact that the dome is no longer lit at night.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>I have seen hundreds of motorcycle riders protesting the helmet law.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>I have seen KKK rallies.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>But, in all of the years that I have worked here, I have never seen a Lansing<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> snow plow.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>In fact, it has been my belief that Lansing<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> does not own a snow plow.<\/p>\n

That fact that I have never seen a Lansing<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> snow plow is reinforced by the fact that I have never seen the streets of Lansing<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> plowed.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Every time that it snows, both cars and people wade through the snow in the streets until it eventually melts.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>\u00c2\u00a0<\/span>In fact, I think city feels that it will all melt come spring so why bother plowing it?<\/p>\n

Now, the residence of Lansing<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> claims that Lansing<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> does plow its streets.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>However, they are also the ones who complain that the street that they live on hasn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t been plowed.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Go figure.<\/p>\n

I think that part of the confusion lies in the fact that there are about a dozen state highways running through the Lansing<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> area.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>The state highways, of course, are maintained by the state and not the city.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>So, if you drive through snow long enough, you will eventually reach a state highway which provides the main arteries for travel in the city.<\/p>\n

If you take a state map and look at the city of Lansing<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> you will notice that some of the roads are gray while others are in color.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>The roads that are gray are city streets.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>The reason that they are gray is because they still have snow on them.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>The roads that are in color are the roads that have been plowed. They are the ones you want to get to if you are presently on a gray road.<\/p>\n

Now, having said all of that, I did see a Lansing<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> snowplow this morning.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>At least, it sort of looked like a snow plow.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>It was a pickup truck with a blade on the front and a salt shaker on the back.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>It was certainly not anything heavy duty.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>It looked more like something used for plowing a parking lot and not a city street.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Even Lowell<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> has big heavy duty dump trucks with blades underneath, which it uses to plow its streets.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>But, so far, I have never seen anything like that in Lansing<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>.<\/p>\n

Of course, the Lansing<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> snow plow pickup truck wasn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t actually plowing snow.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>It was parked in front of a donut shop.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>And I pay city taxes for\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
