Danny Hernandez is dead.

Danny Hernandez is dead. He died in 2000.

I know I may seem a little morbid in my posts lately. It is just that I have some time to surf and I am actually remembering some of the things that I was going to look up on line. And one of these happens to be Danny Hernandez.

I realize that the name Danny Hernandez is as common as Dave Smith so there are a whole lot of people with that name. But, the Danny Hernandez that I am referring was a musician.

Back in the 60s, most of the people from the Lansing area had heard of Danny Hernandez. He headed up a band called “Danny Hernandez and the Ones”. There main claim to fame was a hit single called “you haven’t seen my love”.

The band toured the US for a while and eventually broke up in the 70s. Danny continued on in music while other members of the band became gainfully employed in other professions.

I was sad to learn of Danny’s death. His talent will be greatly missed.

  3. I have been searching for many years for my former band and soul mates from our Lansing band, “Pepe and The problems” I grew up playing music with Danny, Donny Albert, Fred DeYoung, Tommy Marshall. We played the East Coast Circuit for an agency called “Jolly Joyce” from Lancaster, PA, to NYC, to Halifax, NS, CA. But the best time of all was playing Houghton Lake MI, the summer of ?? I still have many photo’s if anyone is interested. So sad to just now read of Danny’s death. Does anyone else have any more information?

  4. I actually just learned of the death of Danny Hernandez and I’m hoping you or someone you know can provide more information. You see, I was one of the original members of “Pepe and The Problems” band in 1964. The original members were me, Danny, Donnie Albert, Fred DeYoung, Tommy Marshall and “Doug” on bass. We played for several years before breaking up after our last gig in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1967. I have not been able to find any of the band up to now. We played many gig’s including opening for the Four Seasons and the Young Rascals at the Lansing civic center. We played a club in East Lansing on campus (Coral Gables?) and many other local clubs before going on the road. We played a summer gig at Houghton Lake, MI at The Red Dog Salon, Flint MI at Mr C’s then on to Lancaster, PA, Philly, NYC, then up to Halifax. Does anyone know anything abut the other band members and how Danny died so young? I also remember well, his wife (girlfriend) Chris and they had 2 small children. Please let me know how I can obtain more info if possible.

    Thanks,

  5. Tom Wharton. I don’t know if you remember me at all. I dated Fred DeYoung and knew Danny when they played as Pepe and The Problems. I met them in ’63 when they were playing in the Battle of the Bands at the Lansing Civic Center. A couple of years ago I saw Ronny Hernandez, Danny’s cousin, in Traverse City. I would love pictures if you have some. Very happy to pay for them.

  6. This post is for Tom Wharton. I just now discovered your post on the internet 2/14/2018 (better late than never). Where do I even start, my name is Jim Joseph and I hung out with you guys so much I was almost an honorary member of the band. I was at the gig at Mr. C’s in flint, I was there in Houghton lake at that incredible bar, I was at the Lansing Civic when you fronted the Four Seasons, and what about all those gigs at the Dells. Danny and Donny were among my best best friends. I remember you as clear as the nose on my face. I remember when you bought that brand new GTO. Pepe and the problems were hands down the best band in Lansing and one of top bands in the State. And you my man, although I didn’t fully appreciate it at the time, was a great guitar player. You always played everything clean and concise ringing those chords out like playing a bell. You had unbelievable taste and never over played. Danny was the show man guitar player and he played the part perfectly, but you were the true backbone of the band and pretty much laid down the grove for the rest of the band to jump on. . I hope through the years you kept your chops. As for me, I ended up managing The Ones which was a really good band and made a lot of noise with there Motown release of “You haven’t seen my love”. As much as liked the band I always knew they couldn’t hold a candle to Pepe and the Problems. I really hope you see this post because I have alot to share with you. Through the years I’ve thought of you often. Best wishes, Jim Joseph
