TThis is a picture of a wood chuck. The wood chuck is up in a small tree. We have seen this several times over the years. Since most people have never heard of such an thing, Kathy decided to take a picture of one just so we could show it to people.
The wood chuck, aka ground hog or ground squirrel, is the largest member of the squirrel family so they are naturally inclined to climb trees. However, since they are primarily a ground dweller, they seldom climb trees. Instead of building nests in trees, they make their home in the ground.
Due to his size, he is not very graceful. In fact, we expected him to fall out of the tree.
We don’t encourage wood chucks to stay around too much particularly after what they did to our car.
