The fiber optic cable that was placed in the ground over 20 years ago is now starting to see a build up of fiber optic plaque. This plaque creates a fiber optic haze so to speak and is diminishing the performance of the cable. But engineers have discovered that by attaching a saw tooth light generator to the fiber, most of the plaque can be dislodged. It then settles harmlessly to the bottom of the fiber.
Technology, where would we be without it.
