For most of my life, firecrackers et. al. were illegal in Michigan.  And in spite of their illegal nature, every year around the fourth of July, you could hear people setting them off all over the neighborhood.  But now that fireworks are legal in Michigan, I hardly hear anyone setting them off.  It is as if the legal nature of fireworks made them unattractive.  Go figure.
