I was very sad to learn on Sunday that David Koski passed away unexpectedly last week. He was only 64. David and I both worked for the State of Michigan and carpooled to Lansing together for about 20 years. And while we were not really friends on a social level, we were close none the less. Over those 20 years of driving to Lansing and back together, we shared each others joys and sorrows.
I lost contact with David when he retired from the State of Michigan a couple of years ago. But since he lived in the area, I always figured that I would run into him. In fact just this Sunday, I commented to my wife that one of these days I expected to see him riding his bicycle down Grand River Dr. And then I read his obituary in the Sunday paper.
He enjoyed snow skiing, biking, swimming, golfing and fishing. And even though his back injury kept him in a constant state of pain, he never let that deter him from the things that he loved to do. He was a good and honest man.
Contributions in his name can be made to the Frederick Meijer’s Gardens.
So long old friend, you will be missed.
