The other day, I was reading an obituary which stated that the deceased was a charter member of a church.  Now usually obituaries talk about family and friends and military service and great accomplishments.  So, reading about a charter membership seemed rather out of place.  Kind of in the same category as saying they were a life long member of the literary club.  I wonder if they were struggling to find something good to say about the person?
