Save Me! Take This Caramel Corn!

The other day at work, a co-worker came up to me and said “Please save me!”  She then handed me a half eaten bag of caramel corn and ran off.  Well OK.  I guess it was kind of like leaving a baby on a door step.

I suspect that she was afraid that she would eat the whole bag of caramel corn.  Lacking the will power to throw it away, she gave it to me.  I  guess she was afraid that if she threw it away herself, she would dig it out of the trash later.

Of course, if she got really desperate, she could always go to the concession stand and purchase another bag.

What ever!  Working for the state is never dull.

The Soup Supper.

The other night, I was trying to figure out what to have for supper when the thought of tomato soup entered my mind.  Since I didn’t have any in the house, I headed for the store.

On the way to the store, I decided that tomato soup and a ham and Swiss on rye would really hit the spot.  Since I didn’t have any ham or Swiss or rye, I would also need to get those at the store.

But, on the way to the store, I saw the local Burger King and decided that a Whopper would hit the spot with less hassle.  So, I never made it to the store.

The Whopper was very tasty.

Poisonous Pine Nuts.

About 20 years ago, I was introduced to pine nuts as a garnish for a spinach salad.  I absolutely loved them.  But, they were expensive.

Recently, I was in Sam’s club and spotted a large bag of them for a very reasonable price.  So, I purchased them.

Now, today, I am reading that some pine nuts are poisonous and not fit for human consumption.

Traditionally, pine nuts come from Italy and are expensive.  But lately, cheap pine nuts are being imported from China.  It is the China imports that need to be checked.

The editable pine nuts are long in shape.  The poisonous pine nuts are not.

Eating the poisonous pine nuts will leave a metallic taste in your mouth which will last for several days.  While it is not fatal, it is also not desirable.

I need to check my bargain nuts as I have yet to use any.  May be they weren’t such a good deal.

100% Natural High Fructose Corn Syrup.

In an effort to find a new source of orange juice for my breakfast at work, I started checking out other brands of individually packaged OJ.

The first one that caught my eye said “100 % Natural Juice.”  Well, that seemed to be what I was looking for so I decided to check it out.  The first ingredient was “water”.  OK?  The second ingredient was “high fructose corn syrup.”  Not OK!  So, it went right back on the shelf.

I guess the juice that was added to the water and high fructose corn syrup was 100% natural.
