Researchers are now saying that alcohol is as effective as cough syrup in treating a cold.  That works for me.  I would much rather have a rum and coke than a shot of icky tasting cough syrup.

CNN and NBC have an all time low credibility rating of 35%.  Sad!

I have sleep apnea so I have a CPAP machine that I use when sleeping.  And this machine has a water reservoir which needs to be cleaned from time to time.  In the past, I have used mouth wash to disinfect it.  But, the mouth wash always left a minty flavor that I have come to detest.  So, after some thought, I switched to lemon flavored vodka.  It works very well and is quite pleasant to smell.  And, if I get tired of lemon, there is a whole host of other vodka flavors to choose from.

The Grand Rapids area is getting its first Chick-Fil-A.  And with every new opening of a Chick-Fil-A, the first 100 customers get free food for a year.  Consequently, there was a whole host of customers who were camped out for several days waiting in line for the official opening.  And while I can appreciate their desire for free food for a year, I have to ask, “don’t these people have jobs?”

While we watch two different TV crime shows, I am amused that they have similar characters on each of the shows.  In particular, they both seem to have the nerdy tech woman who sits in front of computer screens and researches information for the field team.  Fortunately, the nerdy tech girls have different hair color.  Other wise, I  wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between the shows.

The other day, one of the meals that I was cooking called for poaching a whole chicken.  But when I went to the local meat market, they were sold out of chickens.  So, I went on down the road to the local grocery chain to see if they had any whole chickens.  And since they have a huge cooler case of chickens they usually have a good selection of whole chickens.  And while they had packages of breasts and packages of legs and packages of wings and packages of thighs, they didn’t have any whole chickens.  They didn’t even have a package of a whole chicken that was cut up.  So, I ended up buying a package of thighs and calling it good. After all, I was just going to poach it any way and pull the meat off of the bones so I guess it didn’t really matter.

Lake Michigan has some really nice waves for surfing at Grand Haven.  Unfortunately, those waves don’t appear until early winter.  So, with dry suits on and surf boards in hand, the surfers hit the waves until the lake freezes over.

The signs seem to point to authentic Italian food.  But in all actuality, they are pointing to the dog food section of the store.  I wonder if they are trying to make a statement about Italians?

After 146 years, the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus has announced that they will close forever in May.  Basically, times have changed.
